Why the ink doesn't hold the same way

Three factors converge on the same area. The skin on hands and fingers regenerates far faster than anywhere else on the body, so it pushes pigment out more quickly. It endures constant friction — your phone, your pockets, the steering wheel, the gym, washing your hands twenty times a day — which acts like a gentle, permanent sandpaper. And it is one of the most sun-exposed areas of the body all year round, something that multiplies in Andorra: UV radiation at altitude is noticeably more aggressive than at sea level.

There is also a technical detail: the skin on the sides of the fingers and on the palm is extremely thin and irregular, so the needle depth has almost no margin for error. Too shallow and the ink disappears; too deep and the line blows out.

Which designs survive

The ones with thick lines and solid blocks of black. Micro lettering or an ultra-delicate fine line on a finger can look spectacular in week one and be unrecognisable a year later. The back of the hand holds up considerably better than the sides of the fingers, and those far better than the palm, which barely retains ink at all.

The aftercare that makes the difference

Healing calls for real discipline: wash with neutral soap without rubbing, pat dry, moisturise with a panthenol cream several times a day, and avoid gloves, prolonged water and the gym during the first week. After that, forever: high-factor sunscreen every single day. And accept one idea from the outset — this tattoo will need a touch-up at some point. That is not a flaw in the work; it is the nature of the area.
