What a micro tattoo is

We're talking about pieces of two to five centimetres, done with very fine needles and a continuous line. Wrists, ankles, the inner arm, behind the ear or the side of a finger are the placements we're asked for most. It's the natural evolution of the fine line tattoo: the same philosophy of clean, unshaded linework, taken to a scale where every tenth of a millimetre counts.

Small doesn't mean easy

This needs saying plainly, because there's a lot of confusion around it. At this size there is no margin for correction. A line that spreads half a millimetre changes the entire proportion of the design, and ink migrates slightly under the skin over the years: what today reads as three separate lines can read as a smudge a decade from now if the spacing wasn't calculated properly from the start. That's why a good micro tattoo is designed around how it will look in ten years, not around how the first-day photo turns out.

The sketchbook trend

The way people collect them has changed too. Instead of one large, closed piece, many build what's known as sticker style: several independent micro tattoos scattered across the arm, like stickers in a notebook. You can start with one and decide on the next in six months without committing to a full composition.

Aftercare makes the difference

With linework this fine, healing is everything. No direct sun for the first few weeks, light and consistent moisturising, and sunscreen for life: the fine line is always the first thing to blur when it's neglected. And yes, it's perfectly normal to need a small touch-up at two months. That's part of the process, not a failure.
