What a Russian manicure is

It's also known as a dry manicure. Instead of soaking the hands and working the cuticle with nippers, everything is done without water, using an electric file and specific bits for each area. The difference is instantly visible: the colour reaches the true edge of the nail, with none of that one-millimetre gap that gives away an ordinary manicure. The finish looks as if it floats from the root.

What to know beforehand

This technique demands genuine training. An e-file in inexperienced hands thins the nail or damages the skin, so it isn't a service to improvise or attempt at home. Always ask about the training of whoever is treating you, and check whether the tools are sterilised in front of you.

It's also worth knowing that it takes longer than a standard manicure, and that time has a price. In exchange, you visit the salon a third as often.
