Semi-Permanent Polish: How Long It Lasts and How to Care
10 July 2026
Semi-permanent polish has become the favourite of anyone who wants flawless nails for weeks without daily touch-ups. Unlike traditional polish, it's cured under LED light and delivers a shine and durability the classic version simply can't reach. But to keep it looking perfect right to the end, it helps to know how long it really lasts and how to look after it day to day.
How long it lasts
A well-applied semi-permanent polish holds for two to three weeks, and up to four in the best conditions. Longevity depends on product quality, on how the nail was prepped, and above all on your habits. Natural nail growth means the regrowth line becomes visible from the third week: that's the ideal moment to renew it, before it starts lifting.
How to care for it
Water is the great enemy: soaking your hands, washing up without gloves or using hot water softens the keratin and makes the polish lift more easily. Wear gloves for household tasks and never use your nails as a tool to open or scrape. One simple, highly effective trick: applying cuticle oil two or three times a day keeps the nail hydrated, flexible and looking better.
When to renew it
Ideally, come in every three weeks to have the polish properly removed and reapplied. Picking it off at home damages the nail surface and weakens it visit after visit. Professional removal respects your natural nail and prepares the base so the next application lasts just as well.
